TWO ARTISTS SHARE A PHOTO EACH WEEK - EVERY SUNDAY - SINCE 2011.

ZWEI KÜNSTLERINNEN TEILEN JEDE WOCHE - JEDEN SONNTAG - SEIT 2011 EIN FOTO.

Every Sunday, we email each other one JPEG, and we’ve been carrying on this correspondence since June 2011. The only rules we have are that our exchange is on Sunday, and we only can send one photo each. It's usually a picture taken in the course of that week, so our project has become a shared diary and sketchbook of visual ideas. Initially we thought of it as a visual “call and response” with one image answering and building on the next. That happened - and more. Over time, our dialogue has become fluid and overlapping. By now, Lilly's perspective on life in Berlin is all mixed up with Katy’s experience of New York. Maybe instead of a portrait of two cities, our project is of a shared mental landscape and the ambiguous "mobile" world that so many of us live in, across time and space.

Jeden Sonntag senden wir uns ein JPEG per E-Mail und wir führen diese Korrespondenz seit Juni 2011. Die einzige Regel die wir haben ist, dass unser Austausch am Sonntag stattfindet, und wir können jeweils nur ein Foto senden. In der Regel ist das ein Bild, das im Laufe der Woche aufgenommen wurde, so dass unser Projekt zu einem gemeinsamen Tagebuch und Skizzenbuch für visuelle Ideen geworden ist. Ursprünglich dachten wir an einen visuellen „call and response", bei dem ein Bild antwortet und auf das nächste aufbaut. Das ist geschehen - und noch mehr. Im Laufe der Zeit ist unser Dialog fließend und überlappend geworden. Inzwischen ist Lillys Perspektive auf das Leben in Berlin mit Katys Erfahrung in New York vermischt. Vielleicht ist unser Projekt statt eines Porträts von zwei Städten, eine gemeinsame mentale Landschaft in einer mehrdeutigen "mobilen" Welt, in der so viele von uns leben, über Zeit und Raum hinweg.
